Artist You May Not Know: Dr. Dog

First thing first, I have to make a quick edit to my last post "Band You May Not Know". I mistakenly named it "Band" instead of "Artist". That being said, let's jump right into it.

Dr. Dog was officially formed in 1999 and is based in the West Philadelphia region. They have put out four solid albums the most recent being Fate made in 2008. The band features complex vocal arrangements involving both harmonies and overlaid vocals that give a concert hall feeling to their songs. This particular song, My Old Ways, displays this beautifully, with repetitive vocals that never quite get old thanks to the unique way in which they are presented. This particular song is off of their 2007 album, We All Belong. The band in general is composed of five members and often involves multiple instrumentation that doesn't necessarily translate into the greatest live show. My Old Ways in particular involves a veritable music store of instruments (you can hear a washboard at certain times) that often trade off places to keep the groove of the song going and interesting.  Their often eclectic instrumentation has not deterred fans who have followed them all the way up to Fate, which produced arguably the best produced and most well rounded of all their albums in part thanks to like minded producer Rob Schnapf.

Dr. Dog is worth a check out and is arguably one of the more popular bands in the indie scene.

  7. I'm not a fan of that style of music, but the video was certainly entertaining. I can definitely see it being popular among the indie scene just from the video.
